Painting with The Wolfman

Today I hung out at Charlie's house where we're getting ready for a show that got thrown in our laps by The Downtown Artist's Co-Op.  We got one month to fill the DAC and are off to the races, opting to paint all new material because we looooooooooove to punish and push ourselves.  We're calling the upcoming exhibit The I Don't Know Show which will consist of all mixed media paintings, much of which will be on recycled materials.  The byline for the show is "Keeping it Clean in the Dirty South," since we have to watch our subject matter for the venue.  Personally, I think someone spiked the punch down there for us to get the show in the first place.

Let's take a look at what we cranked out today!  I'll get you started with my best effort to do a Fantastic 4 on the fly.  I picked the 4 out of the heap of numbers Charles found and that's where I got started.  We'll end up doing a couple dozen of these rusty metal number signs...

MASHED POTATOES and MANIC DEPRESSION: This Weekend with Dustin Dirt!

Dustin Dirt! is gonna take your mind, bend it backwards and sling some really funky jams out of it this Sunday night with his new body of looooowbrow paintings at Octane Gallery inside Kustom Thrills Tattoo in East Nashville.  Dustin has invaded that side of The Big Nasty and sells out shows like Prince so get by the gallery while he's there for the opening reception Sunday Night, August 7th from 8-11PM.  The exhibit will run for the month of August.

A sneak peek Mr. Dirt let out of the bag tonight!

Just the tip of the iceberg of what you'll see!

Dustin's wild creations are also appearing at Southern Pop Surrealism along with the work of myself, Jeff Bertrand, and Charles Bennett!

Southern Pop Surrealism Live Painting

Ink, Spray Paint and Acrylics on Wood / 2011
Next Saturday night at 6PM, Southern Pop Surrealism OPENS at Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center in New Orleans. I'll be on hand doing some live painting with Jeff Bertrand, Charles Bennett, and Dustin Dirt!

To countdown to the show next week, here's some shots and video from a group painting session we did a few weeks back. These panels will be exhibited in the show along with works from all four artists.

I had a beer- Dustin Dirt! drank it all up...

There is nothing more adorable than a Charles Bennett Yeti

Here's a time lapse video of our paintings for the group show in The Big Easy...

Stay tuned tomorrow for the latter half of this painting session, where we collaborate on Heaven and Hell- with each artist painting their own Angel and Devil.
